Jeff Clausen, a Beef Board member and feedlot operator from Carson, Iowa, understands how the checkoff’s beef safety initiatives serve as a cornerstone to help keep consumer demand for beef strong.
“Our checkoff-funded beef-safety research helps build demand for our product by maintaining consumer trust that their beef is safe, wholesome and nutritious,” says Jeff. “If we don’t provide a safe product, then our businesses are in jeopardy. The entire industry works together to identify the best beef-safety interventions for each level of production, so we can provide a safe product.”
The Annual Beef Safety Summit is the one major annual event completely focused on sharing beef safety research and practices. It brings together producers, packers, processors, wholesalers, retailers and academia. “I feel fortunate to participate in the Summit -- it’s a real eye-opener for me to watch industry players discuss ways to make our product as safe as we possibly can,” Jeff continues. “It just gives me confidence in our safety protocols at our feedlot, and that each level of production is doing the best they can to make beef safe for consumers.”
