Welcome BEEF Magazine Readers
Welcome BEEF magazine readers to the home of your Beef Checkoff Program! Through our “Ask Us” partnership with BEEF, you told us you wanted to know more about how your checkoff is being invested to build demand for your end product and increase your opportunities for profit – and we listened. As you know, your checkoff is invested in a variety of promotion, research and information programs, but you gave us some specific topics you wanted to hear more about, and we’re providing that for you here.
Beef Quality Assurance
The checkoff’s Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program is a national initiative that provides guidelines for beef cattle management through state beef councils and other beef organizations – all toward improving producers’ end product – beef.
- A Commitment To Quality – BQA helps producers identify management practices that can improve the quality of their beef. Through its development of a strong industry commitment to quality, the program aims to raise consumer confidence in beef and the beef industry. For more about the guiding principles behind the checkoff’s BQA programs, visit BQA.
- Auction Market Training – In a recent BQA initiative, the checkoff partnered with the Livestock Marketing Association to distribute an auction market cattle-handling and proper care DVD to all auction market and order-buying stations in the country. “Focal Point: An Auction Market Beef Quality assurance Guide” trains auction market employees about proper BQA practices and cattle-handling techniques. For additional BQA resources, go to Resources.
- Transportation Quality Assurance – Quality assurance during transport plays a critical role in the health and welfare of cattle. The proper handling and transport of cattle can reduce sickness in calves, prevent bruises, and improve the quality of the meat from these animals. That’s the reason for the checkoff’s recent development of a Master Cattle Transporter program as part of the BQA initiative. For more about the program, go to Transportation.
