The work is far from finished when it comes to developing new beef products to help producers improve their profitability. As Sharon Alseth reports, the beef checkoff works hand-in-hand with industry partners to come up with new and innovative ideas to help increase demand for beef.

When consumers shop - they're often looking for fast, convenient answers to the questions:  what’s for dinner?   making beef the solution more often is the goal of the annual beef checkoff-funded “new product exchange” where participants get a first-hand look at some of the new products that may help drive future beef demand.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
