Samantha Daleo receives $5,000 in free groceries

The beef checkoff is pleased to announce the winner of its “Summer Grilling Giveaway” sweepstakes is Samantha Daleo of California. Daleo received $5,000 in gift cards to her favorite grocery supermarket. This is the second time a veal consumer has won $5,000 in the Veal Consumer Sweepstakes funded by the beef checkoff.

Samantha’s online entry on VealMadeEasy.com was one of over 235,000 entries received nationwide. The promotion, which ran from June 15, 2009 through Sept. 15, 2009, is just one of several key marketing efforts launched this year to entice home cooks to prepare veal in their kitchens.

VealMadeEasy.com, the new consumer Web site, features easy-to-make veal recipes, most of which have fewer than 400 calories per serving. Home cooks can also find nutrition information and special promotions such as this Veal Summer Grilling Grocery Giveaway. More than 10 retail chains and 800 stores signed on to support the program. Program elements included the national sweepstakes, two corner recipe labels for packages of veal chops and ground veal, as well as a partnership with The Mushroom Council. The on-pack labels included a recipe for “Simply Sensational Veal Chops” with a mushroom topping and a mushroom veal burger recipe from the famous Lobel’s of New York to please grill masters of all levels.

“We are so pleased to award Samantha this prize,” says Dean H. Conklin, CAE, Executive Director for Veal Marketing with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, contractor to the beef checkoff. “She was searching online for veal recipes and found our promotion – just the consumer we’re looking for to serve veal at home more often.”

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
