Suggested Lead: Consumers wanting to enjoy beef this holiday season are getting lots of suggestions on how to do it, thanks to the Beef Checkoff Program. According to Mary Bartz, who manages food communications efforts for the checkoff, a multi-dimensional approach is used to reach media.
Cut #1 ... :15… and our photographs.
Bartz says the planning for this season’s recipes started more than a year ago.
Cut # 2 ... :34… on pulling it all together.
The industry’s checkoff-funded Web site, www.BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com, has been updated to be not only useful to consumers, but one that editors can utilize, too.
Cut # 3 ... :25… very dynamic process.
According to Bartz, when you put it all together the reach of this checkoff effort is impressive.
Cut # 4 ... :23… multiple, multiple times.
Beef communication efforts aren’t focused solely on the holidays. Already a newspaper feature page targeting the Super Bowl has been distributed to newspapers to be used in January. The Super Bowl is the second largest meal day in the United States, following only Thanksgiving.
The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
