Industry Information
According to the Beef Act, industry information means information and programs that lead to development of new markets, marketing strategies, increased efficiency, and activities to enhance the image of the cattle industry. Checkoff programs focusing on industry information include beef, veal and dairy quality assurance; issues management; and the National Beef Ambassador program.
Hamburger Basics
Fifty-seven percent of consumers learned how to cook hamburgers from a parent, while 29 percent were self-taught, according to a recent checkoff-funded consumer safety survey. That said, only 13 percent of those surveyed correctly identified 160 F as the proper cooking temperature for ground beef. For more results, read “Parents: Teach Food Safety in the Kitchen,” a checkoff release recently sent to top consumer and trade media outlets.
Beef And Dairy Partnership
For the third consecutive year, the checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program is partnering with the Dairy Calf and Heifer Association (DCHA) to promote beef quality assurance to growers of dairy bull and heifer calves. The partnership helps extend the BQA message into this often hard-to-reach segment of the cattle industry. In addition, it allows the BQA program to access some of the most progressive players in this segment of the industry and to help develop targeted BQA best-management practices for calf growers.
