Highlighting Responsible Stewardship

The beef industry’s commitment to best practices in raising food and healthy animals, while protecting the environment and building strong communities, has earned center stage through the Cattlemen’s Stewardship Review (CSR) Outreach program. Building on release of the checkoff-funded Cattlemen’s Stewardship Review in FY11, the associated outreach program is taking the story to mainstream media in FY12. The first push came with the Nov. 2 announcement of the checkoff-funded sustainability assessment, a multi-year research project that will quantify inputs and outputs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in beef cattle raising practices.

Brightening The Holidays With Beef

Editors nationwide have been showcasing beef this fall, bringing delicious recipe ideas and inspirations to consumers nationwide. Perfect for the chilly weather and holiday dinner celebrations, pot roasting and oven roasting recipes are showing up in magazines, newspapers and blogs across the country. Checkoff-developed recipes graced the pages of Victorville Daily Press, DailyMeal.com and Foodily. The Ann Arbor Daily News was inspired by a checkoff recipe when creating its “Filet with Cranberry Drizzle” recipe. Better Homes & Gardens and Real Simple, where the checkoff had done deskside visits, got in on the roasting action as well, featuring beef pot roasts as part of their collections of seasonal recipes.
